In order to bring their phones to market, smartphone makers depend on the schedule set by Qualcomm, the designer of the most popular high-end chip. For the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm would consider pushing the schedule even further forward to arrive in October. What to imagine an even advanced release of the future Galaxy S24 or Xiaomi 14.

This is news that surprises regulars of the smartphone release schedule. According to the Digital Chat Station leaker, arguably the most trusted officiating on Weibo, Qualcomm’s next high-end chip could move its schedule a little further forward.

A trend advancing among manufacturers.

If this seems very early, one could argue that this is the direction of the story. After all, the Xiaomi 13 was announced for the Chinese market on December 19, 2022, 11 days earlier than its predecessor. The Galaxy S23 launched on February 1, 8 days before the S22. The OnePlus 11 wins the award with a January 4, 2022 presentation.

With such a race to see who will launch their phone first, we can imagine that manufacturers are pushing in this direction and Qualcomm is following the direction of the wind. One thing is certain, if the chip comes out sooner, some of the manufacturers will not resist the temptation to reveal their precious products to their little friends. So we could imagine seeing the Galaxy S24, Xiaomi 14, and other OnePlus 12s even sooner.

A very good vintage 2023

Remember that from the first tests we carried out, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 seems to be a complete success. More powerful, free of heating problems as was the case with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which reached all Galaxy S (which allows it to recover a very large market share in the high range).

Given this success, we can imagine that the advancement of this calendar would hide Qualcomm’s ambition to dedicate this year to the launch of a chip marked with a Plus. Traditionally, the Snapdragon from the beginning of the year is always followed by a version overclocked in the second half of the year. The Snapdragon 888 is followed by the 888 Plus, the 8 Gen 1 by the 8+ Gen 1. What if there was no 8 Gen 2?

At the moment, this is just speculation on our part, of course, but in view of the excellent performance of the 8 Gen 2, the release of an 8+ Gen 2 seems a bit pointless.

Last year, the 8+ Gen 1 served more as a firefighter against the bubbly 8 Gen 1 hit by overheating, even swapping the founder from one chip to another to go from Samsung to TSMC. The 8 Gen 2 doesn’t suffer from such issues, the release of a Plus chip seems less necessary. If it were to come out, I’d surely be pleased with an output on some ultra-high-end or gaming models.

What to expect from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

According notebook, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 could expect a 25% performance gain on the CPU. The media then speculated on a 20% increase in energy efficiency.
