Through a Qualcomm announcement, we can already guess what the next Nothing smartphone will offer.

The Nothing Phone (1) was one of the highlights of 2022. It’s not every day a new brand enters the smartphone market, especially with a design so different from the masses. For a while, Nothing argued that a new smartphone was not on the agenda, before admitting to developing a Nothing Phone (2).

Thanks to Qualcomm at MWC 2023, we were able to glean some interesting features for the upcoming Nothing flagship. It will be really high-end.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and satellite connection

During its keynote, Qualcomm unveiled the list of its first partners for Snapdragon Satellite, its satellite network connection technology. Remember that if we can make it a competitor to what Apple offers with the iPhone 14, Qualcomm announces that it wants to go further. The Snapdragon Satellite connection will allow, in particular, the exchange of instant messages between friends, and not just access to emergency services.

Among Qualcomm’s first partners we find Honor, Motorola, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and, therefore, Nothing. However, to benefit from this satellite connection, Qualcomm requires, for the moment, that the smartphone integrates the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

In other words, we can conclude that the Nothing Phone (2) will integrate the premium Qualcomm chip that already convinced us in the OnePlus 11 and the Samsung Galaxy S23. A good surprise, because the brand’s first model used a much less efficient Snapdragon 778G+ chip.

The Nothing Phone (2) is expected in summer 2023. It should be one of the first smartphones on the market to offer Qualcomm’s satellite connection.

Our journalist Cassim Ketfi is in Barcelona to cover MWC 2023 in its entirety, but is present as part of a press trip organized by Qualcomm.
