The Galaxy Watch 5 is inspired by the previous model, and maintains the circular format (44 mm here) with careful finishes. It’s also nice to wear and is easily forgotten on the wrist. It has the merit of offering a more scratch-resistant screen (60% more resistant depending on the brand) and of having the IP68 certificate, which prevents it from being removed every time you shower or swim (in a pool).
On the display side, the 1.4-inch AMOLED screen displays a definition of 450 × 450 pixels (supports always-on display). For the rest, we find the WearOS operating system with the One UI Watch interface that gives access to the Play Store catalog. The interface is clear, simple and fluid on a day-to-day basis thanks to the Exynos W920 chip.
A refined recipe
The Watch 5 ticks all the boxes for classic smartwatch functionality. There is a sensor that measures body composition, an electrocardiogram sensor to monitor your heart rate, and another dedicated to blood pressure. Sleep monitoring is still in the game, as is snore detection.
On the sports side, it is capable of detecting more than 90 sports activities and has a GPS that lacked some precision during our test. The Galaxy Watch 5 is equipped with a 284mAh battery compared to the Watch 4’s 247mAh. A slight increase, which can last for a day depending on usage. Finally, you only need 30 minutes to go from 0% to 45% charge.
