You are aware that the Swedish brand Volvo has undergone profound changes. Geely acquired Volvo Cars in 2010, it is one of the largest automotive groups in the world.
In 2022 we were able to discover the EX90. It is an imposing all-electric SUV that will begin delivery at the end of 2023.
It’s an expensive SUV that features all-new architecture and is a milestone in the electrification of the band, along with an all-new interface based on Android Automotive and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip for infotainment. The little ambition shown: Volvo wants to make its EX90 the safest car in the world.
In practice, the Volvo EX90 has level 2 autonomous driving. But LiDAR will allow it to offer level 3 autonomous driving in the future, when the regulations and the software part are ready.
Volvo Cars’ most promising next model is the EX30, which would later sit below the current XC40 and C40 Recharge in the range, no doubt to be announced in 2023.
What should we expect from the Volvo EX30?
This Volvo EX30 will be a very compact SUV, and without a doubt the most accessible Volvo car in the catalogue. So don’t expect a model as advanced as the EX90, the manufacturer’s flagship.
This EX30 will use Geely Group’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) technical foundation. As a reminder, this modular platform that allows various architectures already equips the new Smart #1, which will compete head-on with the electric SUV, and will also be present in future Polestar models. The Smart #1 is a compact SUV, the design of which was designed by Mercedes.
Recently launched in France, this 100% electric urban SUV incorporates a 66 kWh battery with a WLTP range of 440 km. The Brabus version offers less range, as it uses front-engine and rear-engine all-wheel drive for a total of 315 kW (428 PS) and 543 Nm. This combo allows 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. The Smart #1 starts at €39,990 excluding bonuses and costs €47,490 for the Brabus version.

It is also the architecture of the very recent Zeekr X, 4.45 meters long, and therefore very close in size to the Peugeot 2008 and 3008. It is an SUV that mixes genres, with sports features like the Smart #1. In fact, the Chinese manufacturer announces a 0 to 100 km/h in 3 seconds. The autonomy could be around 400 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle, very close to what the Jeep Avenger offers, among others.
As for the EX30, expect this new SUV to be around 4.25 meters long, giving Volvo a match for everything from the latest Hyundai Kona, but also Renault’s Megane E-Tech, the MG4 as well. , without forgetting the Volkswagen ID.4 or the future. Tesla Model 2 (whatever its name is).
The EX30 would be offered with a 268-hp output associated with a single rear-mounted engine, the platform also allows one to imagine a more expensive four-wheel-drive model with output around 420 hp.
The 68 kWh battery of the Smart #1 could reach a range of 450 km (WLTP). The platform also offers a charging power of 150 kW, comparable to what we see on the market. Volvo can also set itself apart with its driver assistance system, its safety features, not to mention its customized Android Automotive infotainment system.
This Volvo EX30 small SUV is expected to debut in June 2023 and go on sale soon after. Production will take place in China, and would even be delivered before the EX90 we already know.
Volvo already offers attractive and safe models, and at the right price, the EX30 can certainly be a very popular car. Now we will have to wait…
