Samsung Galaxy 5 Pro Watch

  • Excellent OLED screen
  • Complete app ecosystem
  • Comprehensive sanitary measures

Available in €436 in Cdiscount

The fifth generation of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch was the most recent presented. Samsung has refined its recipe with the Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro. Samsung Galaxy 5 Pro WatchIt is the top-of-the-range model, the one that benefits from all the features and above all, from the best autonomy.

The watch has a round Amoled screen with a diameter of 1.4 inches with a definition of 450 x 450 pixels. The light sensor is also quite effective, and you generally won’t have a hard time seeing your watch correctly, regardless of light conditions. Always On mode displays the dial with the time permanently. You can also choose from 37 layout possibilities at this level.

Regarding the design of the watch itself, Samsung has chosen to stand out with something much more massive, the dial with raised edges. Exit the navigation wheel, however, everything is done on the touch screen…

For navigation, the watch uses the latest version of Wear OS 3 (i.e. Android for connected watches), just like its predecessors, the Watch 4. In practice, navigation is perfectly intuitive. You have access to a ton of apps, including third-party apps, which is very useful for Strava users, Spotify users, and other Citymappers.

On the health side, the Watch 5 Pro is very complete: it includes an accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, geomagnetic sensor for the compass, bioelectrical impedance analysis sensor for the fat mass index, electrocardiogram, blood pressure monitor, and heart rate monitor. . All this allows you to measure your number of steps, your heart rate, but also to orient yourself, visualize your fat mass rate, perform an electrocardiogram, measure your blood pressure or even blood oxygen saturation. On the sports side, more than a hundred activities are offered. Athletes who use GPS will notice, however, that it sometimes lacks precision. On the heart rate capture, on the other hand, everything is fine.

Finally, the Watch 5 Pro has a great advantage: its autonomy. If the latter varies a lot depending on the use of GPS or Always-On, on average you can count on two or three days of autonomy.

In short, an excellent connected watch for those who want to take advantage of effective sports functions. For more on this Samsung smartwatch, head over to our full Galaxy Watch 5 Pro review.

Samsung Galaxy 5 Watch

  • Successful ecosystem, especially with a Samsung smartphone
  • Pleasant to wear, waterproof.
  • Good design

Available in €299 at Fnac

Taken on its own, the Galaxy Watch 5 is a good connected watch. Problem: it takes a lot of elements from the Watch 4, deviates little from it and, above all, offers only a few innovations. The price is still high.

We will recognize a look that is always very pleasant, sober, discreet, with a 40 mm aluminum case, which allows it to adapt without worry to the wrists of the little ones. The port is nice, nothing to complain about on this side. A 44mm size is also available for wider wrists. The IP68 certification makes it resistant to water and dust.

There’s nothing to complain about on the software side either: Wear OS is still in command and a success. The applications are numerous and polished. Above all, the use together with a Samsung phone is perfect.

But the Watch 5 clearly sins on one point, its autonomy. Don’t expect to use it for more than a day. On a day-to-day basis, this isn’t much, and having to think about recharging it every night can be annoying. With Power Saving mode on, which noticeably cuts Always On, however, you’ll be able to last longer. Like many connected watches, it recharges by induction with a proprietary cable.

Level sensors, the Galaxy Watch 5 fully incorporates the Pro’s technical sheet, always having an accelerometer, gyroscope, heart rate monitor and many others. Therefore, you can perform the same precise health monitoring measurements. As with its big sister, certain functions, such as the electrocardiogram and blood pressure measurement, can only be performed if you have a Samsung smartphone, through the Samsung Health application.

The Galaxy Watch 5 is a good watch for people who are looking for a discreet model. However, you will have to consider a possible alternative: the Watch 4. To know everything about this model, go to the Galaxy Watch 5 test.

Samsung Galaxy 4 Watch

  • Little pretty girl
  • A nice bright screen
  • clear interface

Available in €189 at Samsung

The Galaxy Watch 4 marked a before and after in the range of Samsung watches. In fact, it is the first smartwatch from the South Korean manufacturer to take advantage of Wear OS, the Android system with a One UI overlay. And that’s a very good thing.

The Watch 4 stands out with a more original design than its competitors, the sphere extends towards the corners. It’s sure to appeal to small wrists and more discreet watch fans: in fact, it’s offered in two sizes, starting with a 40mm case and a more imposing 44mm. It also abandons the spinning wheel to make way for all touch. Nothing to say about the manufacturing quality and solidity, always at the forefront at Samsung: here we take advantage of stainless steel for the casing, as well as a Corning Gorilla Glass DX to protect the screen.

The OLED screen is perfectly readable, the brightness is good. Navigation level, it’s the same story as for the most recent Watch 5 range: thanks to Wear OS, everything works.

What about the health and sports functions? Everything is there: pedometer, heart rate monitor, SpO2, electrocardiogram, GPS, bioimpedance measurements… As in the Watch 5, the electrocardiogram and blood pressure measurement can only be done if you are using a Samsung phone. In autonomy, you will reach the end of the day… no more. This is the known main weak point of this model.

In the end, the Watch 4 is very close to the Watch 5. However, the Watch 4 is offered at almost 100 euros less… Which seriously raises the question of the need to pay for the latest model. Do you need more info? Read the full Galaxy Watch 4 review.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic

  • Very accomplished design and less “smartwatch”
  • accurate gps
  • use operating system

Available in €199 in baker

The Watch 4 Classic is close to the Watch 4, still placing it a notch higher in the range. In fact, it’s more like an analog watch in design: so we recommend it if you want to avoid getting your watch too marked as “smartwatch”. This involves a more prominent, round stainless steel case and the addition of a rotating wheel. You will not have access to the same sizes: 42 and 46 mm.

The 42mm model has a 1.2-inch diameter screen with a definition of 396 x 396 pixels and a density of 330 pixels per inch (ppi) while the 46mm model benefits from a 1.4-inch panel. inches in diameter, with a definition of 450 x 450 pixels and a density of 321 dpi. Inside we find an Exynos W920 chip, 16 GB of storage and 1.5 GB of RAM.

The Classic model has the same features and sensors as its brother, the Watch 4.

It is therefore rather in the design that the Classic stands out, with an elegant aesthetic, more marked “watchmaking”, and above all the rotating crown that modifies the way of navigating the OS. We will always regret its fairly fair autonomy of 48 hours maximum, like the Watch 4. In addition, it sells for 100 euros more than its counterpart.

What smartphones is a Samsung Galaxy Watch compatible with?

Up to and including the Galaxy Watch 3, you can use an iPhone just like an Android phone. This is no longer possible since the Galaxy Watch 4 and the switch to Wear OS. Therefore, the watches in this guide are only compatible with Android smartphones. In the absence of Google services, Huawei smartphones are also not supported. Please note that you will need a device running at least Android 6.0 and having more than 1.5 GB of memory.

Also, some functions can only be used when the watch is paired with a Samsung smartphone: these include electrocardiogram and heart pressure.

How does a watch connected to a smartphone work?

Galaxy watches connect via Bluetooth to your Android smartphone. You will first need to install the “Samsung Galaxy Wearable” app on your phone and follow the instructions. In this way, the data will be synchronized between the two devices. In particular, this will allow you, on the one hand, to consult the notifications received on your smartphone, directly from your watch, but also to access the health monitoring and all the readings taken by the watch, on your phone.

What is Samsung’s experience with watches?

Samsung launched in 2013 with its first connected watch, the Samsung Galaxy Gear, which we tested at the time and wasn’t a huge success. The first real “Galaxy Watch” comes out in 2018.

Until the release of the Watch 4, Galaxy watches used the Tizen operating system, developed by Samsung. The manufacturer then formed a partnership to use Wear OS, based on Android with a One UI overlay.

Can I change the strap of my Galaxy Watch?

Like any watch, it is of course possible to change the strap to further personalize your watch. For the Galaxy Watch series 4 and 5, these are classic 20mm bracelets: so, in theory, you can use any standard bracelet of this size. Official straps, however, are precisely cut to match the curvature of the dial. You may not find this if you choose a third party bracelet.
