Huawei presented its new Watch GT Cyber, a watch that can completely change its appearance by integrating it into another box.

Launched at the end of last year, Google’s Pixel Watch has distinguished itself by its atypical design. Like the Apple Watch, it’s basically a plain and simple watch that features a single screen with a button on the side. With no trace of bezel, lugs or strap, the discreet design of the watch can be modified at will simply by changing the strap.
It is this very simple pocket watch principle that Huawei has taken up for its new Huawei Watch GT Cyber, presented at MWC 2023 that is currently being held in Barcelona. In addition to its Huawei Watch Buds, on display at the fair, the Chinese manufacturer has introduced a new connected watch model that can be completely removed from the box to change its design. Like a connected bracelet, it is therefore possible to remove the central part of the watch, with the display and the crown, to embed it in another bezel. Which completely changes the appearance of the digital touch.
This concept is attractive on paper… given that Huawei offers very different designs from each other. However, for the moment, the Chinese firm has only presented models with a rather sporty design with rubber straps and quite angular cases. However, we can hope that the firm, or third-party accessories, will eventually present more elegant models, with a thin metal bezel and a leather strap, for example.
A fully featured watch
In terms of performance, the Huawei Watch GT Cyber incorporates a 1.32-inch round Amoled screen for a definition of 466 x 466 pixels, that is, a density of 352 pixels per inch. The watch also benefits from a heart rate monitor to measure heart rate and blood oxygen saturation, a barometer for altitude, and an accelerometer and gyroscope for counting steps. The watch also benefits from a GNSS chip compatible with GPS, Galileo, Beidou, Glonass and QZSS for geolocation during sports training.

As for the operating system, the Watch GT Cyber comes with LiteOS, not Wear OS. So third-party apps will be limited, but it will still be possible to answer calls on the wrist, receive notifications, or use the watch’s built-in voice assistant.
On the autonomy side, Huawei specifies that it has an integrated battery that allows up to seven days of use in classic use and four days in intensive use. The watch can also be recharged with a Qi-compatible inductive charging base.
