The advantages of OLED in a compact smartphone
The Samsung Galaxy S22 in the first place adopts a fairly contained size compared to other premium references located in the same price range. Therefore, we are entitled to a 6.1-inch screen, which allows it to be slipped into a pocket. It’s not as compact as an iPhone mini, but its diagonal will still be very pleasing to those who are reluctant to hold a nearly 7-inch device in their hands.
The main asset of this design is still this AMOLED panel, framed by very thin edges, and endowed with a Full HD+ definition (2,340 x 1,080 pixels). This screen also benefits from an adaptive refresh rate that can go up to 120 Hz, which is the guarantee of very good fluidity in the display of applications. Otherwise, everything is protected by the tough Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ glass.
Solid performance, but average battery life
Performance-wise, the Galaxy S22 is powered by an Exynos 2200 SoC etched in 4nm (and 5G compatible), which offers good multitasking power. Powerful applications will run smoothly. However, the results are less good in terms of graphics performance, and some slowdowns are to be feared in certain games, such as Fortnite. Android 12, with the One UI 4 interface, promises a very smooth user experience.
To keep all these beautiful people going, we will still have to deal with average autonomy, since the 3,700 mAh battery will not allow the smartphone to last a full day with heavy use. We’ll take solace in fast charging (up to 25W) and wireless charging, which will be present, but we’ll have to make sure we have our charger nearby, just in case.
A part of the photo that makes up for it all
The photographic part allows the Samsung Galaxy S22 to catch up: thanks to its three 50 + 12 + 10 megapixel sensors (wide angle, ultra wide angle and telephoto x3) located on the left edge of the smartphone. The device provides great versatility, with special mention for the good level of detail that can be seen in the shots captured by the main sensor. In short, here we have a good photophone, even if its dynamic range management is sometimes uneven across various lenses.
