Two well-known analysts believe that the first MacBook with an OLED screen will be launched soon. If they do not agree on the exact release date, they do agree on one point: it would be in 2024.

Even at €1,500, Apple’s MacBook Air M2 doesn’t have an Oled display, instead making do with an IPS LCD panel. As for the MacBook Pro 14 (2021), which starts at 2,249 euros, it is equipped with a mini-LED screen. This could soon be history if we believe the recent statements by Ross Young, a display specialist, and Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple-savvy analyst, taken up by 9to5Mac. However, you shouldn’t be in too much of a hurry.
The first MacBook Oled is expected by 2024
The first rumors of an Oled screen on Apple laptops date back to 2021. At that time we were working more for the 2025 marketing. But the Anglo-Saxon media takes up a publication by Ross Young, who said last summer that he wasmore and more likely» that a MacBook with an OLED screen will be released in 2024.

More recently, the Ming-Chi Kuo analysis has been toned down by stating On twitter that a release next year was not yet certain. He claims, however, that Apple “it will also release Oled MacBooks before the end of 2024 at the earliest. Led by Apple, the growth rate of Oled laptops is expected to maintain rapid growth in the coming years.».
Towards MacBooks with a folding screen
According to him, laptops equipped with an OLED screen can be thinner and lighter than those with mini-LEDs. The design options are also more diverse: we managed to fold OLED screens. What’s more, we learned a little over a month ago that Apple would be working on a MacBook with a folding screen and Oled.

We could see many folding PCs in a few years: it was also one of the trends at CES 2023. For now, its marketing is still quite anecdotal. But Apple could go further: we know that the manufacturer has been interested in Micro LEDs for years. A display technology that has the advantage of being more energy efficient and prevents screen burn-in. The Micro LED could arrive first with the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra, before expanding to the iPhone, iPad, and eventually the MacBook. Apple would also establish its own Micro LED factory.
