In February 2023, the electric car was popular in France. Finally, above all two models, decidedly opposed: the Dacia Spring and the Tesla Model Y. Not to mention the Peugeot e-208 and the Fiat 500. However, a very strange electric car appears in the ranking: the Tesla Roadster!

In January 2023, electric cars outsold diesel and the French preferred the Dacia Spring. Rebelote by February 2023 since electric cars represent 16% of the market share, and even 24% taking into account rechargeable hybrids if we are to believe the figures it offers AAA data et AFP.

For comparison, in February 2022, electric cars accounted for only 12% of registrations. The increase is therefore real, but still a bit timid, since this market share had fallen to 13% in January 2023.

The Dacia Spring hits hard

In detail, the ranking of the 10 best-selling electric cars in France in 2023 is still held by the Dacia Spring, which occupies the first place with 2,872 registrations. The favorite electric car of the French takes advantage of the year 2023 to get a small change of look, with the new Extreme finish incorporating a new, more powerful engine.

In second place is the Tesla Model Y, which jumped from January with 2,484 sales. This is easily explained by the sawtooth deliveries of the car, arriving from Berlin for the Performance and Long Range versions, but from Shanghai for the more affordable Propulsion version.

Tesla price cuts

We imagine that the effect of the price cuts decided at the beginning of January is beginning to be felt. But this effect should be amplified in the coming weeks, and it is possible that the month of March will be a record for Tesla, globally, but also in Europe. Since between the order and delivery can take several weeks.

In third position, the Peugeot e-208 and its 2,092 sales slightly exceed the Fiat 500 with 1,919 registrations. Neck to neck, Renault manages to surpass the MG4 (1,004 sales) with the 1,069 registrations of its Mégane E-Tech.

The MG4 almost ahead of Renault

We remember that in January, the MG4 had made the affront of passing in front of the Renault Zoé and it continues like this. We see the Mégane keeping the affordable Chinese electric car at bay, but will it last?

We continue with the Tesla Model 3 and its 872 registrations, followed by two Renaults: the Zoé (795 sales) and the Twingo (779 sales). The Hyundai Kona closes the top 10, with 522 units. Remember that it will be renewed this year, with a completely new design and a revised interior.

The presence of a Tesla Roadster

The strangest thing about this ranking is the presence of a Tesla Roadster. Yes, yes, you read that right: Tesla’s famous electric sports car that this year celebrated its 15th anniversary. It would have been recorded in a single copy. Is it an import of the original Roadster, treated as a new car by AAA Data? Or is it a surprise, the new Roadster?

We have a great doubt about this second hypothesis, and we are waiting for AAA Data to return to see it more clearly.
