In January 2023, the Dacia Spring is still at the top of the electric car sales podium. Another highlight: the MG4 enters the top 5 with fanfare. Diesel cars, meanwhile, continue to fall.

The year 2023 promises to be rich in terms of the electric car. Either in terms of future electric cars sold, but also in terms of market share. Enrollment data for January 2023 have just been published by AAA datathe opportunity to take stock.
Electric car vs diesel: technical knockout
In January, electric cars accounted for 13% market share compared to other engines. A figure that has not changed much in recent months, since it was identical in December 2022. But it was around 10% a year ago, in January 2022. This growth is at the expense of diesel, 33% less compared to the same period last year. More electric cars are sold than diesel for several months in France.
The 10 best electric cars in France
But what interests us the most are the 10 best electric cars sold in France in January 2023. And in this little game, Dacia occupies the first place, with its Spring. Then there’s the Fiat 500 in second position, just ahead of the Renault Mégane E-Tech in third. At the bottom of the podium, the Peugeot e-208 dwarfs the MG4, in fifth position. This hits hard, since in December 2022 it was 10th. This shows its appeal to the French, and we understand them, with its excellent value for money.
The rest of the standings leaves the indestructible Renault Zoé in sixth position, closely followed by its little brother, the Renault Twingo. Then we find the Peugeot e-2008 in eighth position, followed by the Tesla Model Y. The Hyundai Kona closes the ranking in tenth position, just ahead of the Tesla Model 3.
|DACIA – SPRING||1 911|
|RENAULT – MEGANE-E||1 506|
|TESLA – MODEL Y||424|
The other highlight is the presence of the Genesis G80, registered in a single copy. Does this mean that the brand will be officially launched in France? It is probable, since the GV60, cousin of the Kia EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5, could be marketed in France.
This ranking is not really a surprise, since it includes, more or less, the 10 best-selling electric cars in 2022. It is true that, in detail, the cars did not all have the same position, but c is completely normal.
Tesla’s Sawtooth Deliveries
Registrations vary greatly on a monthly basis depending on certain manufacturers. The hardest automaker to track is Tesla, which delivers its cars in “waves.” The reason is simple: they mainly come from their Shanghai factory and are delivered by boat.
In the fourth quarter of 2022, Tesla delivered half of its electric cars in December alone, according to the financial report. This figure even reached 74% in the second quarter of 2022. And precisely, Elon Musk’s firm wants to do better in the future, thanks in particular to a better global network.
Thus we can cite the factory in Berlin, which is beginning to take off. This will allow delivery to European customers with a more regular flow. But for the moment, only the Model Y Grande Autonomie and Performance come out of the German chains.
