A full 3D rendering of what the upcoming Sony Xperia 10 V should look like was unveiled on Saturday, February 25 by a famous leaker. According to these images, the fifth generation of Sony’s mid-range smartphone should retain exactly the same design as the third generation, released in 2021.

You may find it difficult to differentiate the new Xperia 10 from its predecessors. Saturday, February 25, the information site The technological perspective has released what it claims is a full 3D render of the fifth generation of Sony’s cheapest smartphone: the Xperia 10 V.

Images of the smartphone from all angles and a 360-degree video are available, according to information from the well-known leaker OnLeaks. Problem: There seems to be no design difference between the Sony Xperia 10 IV and this Sony Xperia 10 V.

The same design for four generations.

This announcement wouldn’t be surprising if said design didn’t look dated next to its competitors. In the images we see a small, rather rectangular screen, framed by two black bars at the top and bottom, thicker than the side edges. A design similar to that of the first Xperia 10 of 2019 and almost identical from the Xperia 10 III of 2021. Even the dimensions seem copied and pasted, going from 6 to 6.1 inches: 153.3 x 68.4 x 8, 5mm for the new model, versus 153 x 67 x 8.3mm for the current generation.

The news site itself points out: while most mid-range smartphones place their front-facing camera in a drop-shaped or punch-shaped notch inside the screen, ” Sony continues to offer bezels, both on its flagships and its mid-range phones ».

Space for lost technologies

However, these screen borders still have the advantage of leaving room for useful technologies. As in the Xperia 10 IV, these two spaces should therefore hide the front camera, a proximity sensor, an ambient light sensor and an LED for notifications, which have disappeared from most current smartphones.

Old is good: the Xperia 10 V should keep its 3.5mm jack, its notification LED and even offer front-facing speakers. // Source: The Tech Outlook and OnLeaks

The only notable change in the design of Sony’s next mid-range: on the top edge, the small call-listening grille seems to double as a speaker this time, to ensure a stereo effect with the one installed on the bottom edge. A novelty with which they re-equip most of the current mid-range smartphones.

Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V

As for the equipment, this Sony Xperia 10 V would also maintain the same side print sensor, the same triplet of photographic modules, the same USB-C port and the same 3.5 mm jack as its predecessor.

Of course, we will have to wait for the official announcement from Sony before confirming the features and design of this 5th generation mid-range model. An announcement is expected in May 2023… about the same time as last year.
