Sennheiser has just introduced a new microphone for the general public. This profile USB microphone offers an easy-access solution for worry-free capturing your voice.

In recent years, voice capture solutions have been widely democratized. In addition to the rise of streaming video, this has also led to the proliferation of videoconference meetings with teleworking.
Already present in the field of sound capture for professionals or for video, Sennheiser has decided to enter the USB microphone market. The German manufacturer has launched a new microphone that is easy to use, without too many configurations and that works on both PC and Mac, Android and iPad.
Called Profile USB Microphone, Sennheiser’s microphone has, as its name suggests, the advantage of taking advantage of USB connectivity and not XLR. This choice of connectors will allow, in particular, an easier use for consumers, since it makes it possible to dispense with an audio interface. In addition, Sennheiser has chosen to offer a three meter long USB-C to USB-C cable to connect the microphone to a smartphone or computer. Enough to allow easy connection to Android smartphones or iPads. On the other hand, for PCs that don’t benefit from a USB-C plug, you’ll necessarily have to go for another cable or buy a USB-C to USB-A adapter.
An easy to use microphone
No driver or specific software is needed to use the Sennheiser USB Profile microphone. Just plug it into the power outlet. Subsequently, the microphone can be controlled with a few buttons and sliders. What to put the microphone in silent mode, adjust its gain, increase the volume of the audio return through the headphone jack or modify the mix between the sound of your voice and that of your PC in the audio return.

For voice recording, Sennheiser used its own KE10 capsule, already used in the MKE 600 (shotgun microphone), MKE 400 (compact shotgun microphone) or TCC2 (ceiling microphone). It is therefore a cardioid microphone that will mainly capture nearby sounds. Sennheiser does not offer an omnidirectional mode for using, for example, a single microphone placed in the middle of a table for podcast recording. Also note that the capsule is suspended to avoid shock noises and the microphone incorporates a pop filter to reduce plosives.
Sennheiser’s Profile USB microphone is now available. It is available in two versions: a basic kit, with a fixed metal foot at 129 euros, and a kit with an articulated arm for 199 euros.
