SmartTag 2 could launch in August 2023, at the same time as the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5. Two years after the first generation, it’s hard to imagine what Samsnug could add.
2021 was the year of the explosion for Bluetooth trackers. While Tile had quietly established itself as a leader in this market, two phone giants launched. Samsung at the beginning of the year with SmartTag and then Apple with AirTags.
Since then, there has been a bit of a dead calm. Also consider the few smartphones that integrate Ultra-wideband, a standard that allows you to take advantage of all the features of these connected keychains. Apart from a few models, only the iPhone and Galaxy S include it automatically.
An outing with the Z Flip and Fold
And that’s a good thing, because Samsung would have planned to put the lid back on this summer. According mobile samthe Korean giant would plan to launch second-generation SmartTags during the third quarter of 2023. In all likelihood, if this timeline is confirmed, the tracker should launch at the same time as the new Galaxy Z Flip 5, Z Fold 5, Galaxy Buds 3 and the Galaxy Watch 6.
As for what Samsung has in store for this second generation, we can only guess. Sam Mobile speculates on better range, louder sound, and better security options.
The question of price will also arise. Since then, brands like Eufy have released a similar product for half the price. If Samsung hopes to sell its second generation, it will need to find something to convince.
