Qualcomm today announces the market launch of its new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Replacing the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, this new SoC once again targets the “luxury” mid-range with an improved technical sheet everywhere it counts.
Less than a year after launching its Snapdragon 7 Gen 1, and visibly omitting to market a Snapdragon 7 Gen 2 (whose nomenclature would have been logical), Qualcomm chose the calm of this month of March to kick off the direct shipment of its Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 to market.
A little ahead of its usual calendar, the firm is significantly improving its mid-range processor to provide it with more power, but also with a better photographic part, more AI capabilities and improved connectivity. Let’s see in detail what Qualcomm has prepared for us with this new SoC.
Qualcomm refines the “top” of its mid-range
Expected by the end of March, first on Redmi and Realme devices, Qualcomm says, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is starting to improve on CPU performance. In this sense, Qualcomm is now betting on an 8-core Kryo processor (one high-performance core, three high-performance cores, four high-efficiency cores) capable of reaching 2.91 GHz for 50% more performance and a 13% energy consumption. less in the entire SoC. The latter also packs an Adreno GPU part that’s twice as fast and a dedicated AI part that’s also twice as efficient, with the added bonus of a 40% increase in performance per watt, Qualcomm promises. This improved AI will allow, in particular, to offer users better scaling capabilities (1080p to 4K, for example) in photos or games, in particular.

On the gaming side, the group also indicates that its Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 now supports VRS (Variable Rate Shading), while taking advantage of volumetric rendering management (to improve the quality of smoke and fog in-game). . The chip also improves on the audio side, with aptX support for Lossless music and guaranteed lag-free audio in games.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 also improves photography, with the addition of a triple 18-bit ISP that increases the quality of low-light shots. Qualcomm’s new SoC also offers photo capture up to 200 Mpx, as well as HDR offset video capture, with triple exposure from two cameras simultaneously.
The chip is finally graced with a Snapdragon X62 5G modem which now gives you improved download speeds, which can reach 4.4 Gb/s. Capacities that are very close to a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but with one detail: the founder is called TSMC here and not Samsung. What hope to avoid the heating problems that hit his friend.
