How do you lower the temperature of a smartphone by 20 degrees without having a freezer at hand? OnePlus has a solution.
Smartphone manufacturers aren’t just integrators, combining a SoC with a screen… they’re also in charge of designing a chassis that will support all of this. Precisely, the question of the cooling of the smartphone is a fundamental question to guarantee a good performance, and also a significant autonomy. At this point, they can differentiate themselves from the competition.
Samsung has long been installing miniature heat pipes to evacuate heat from its smartphones, Asus has gone much further, installing a mechanical valve as well as a portable accessory called the AeroActive Cooler equipped with a fan. This time, it’s OnePlus’ turn to be resourceful.
There’s the OnePlus 11 Concept that incorporates a huge copper heat pipe with Active CryoFlux fluid and a micropump. The principle is comparable to that of water cooling, the micropump allows to move the liquid in the circuit. But, what interests us today is an accessory called OnePlus 45W Liquid Cooler.
It is not practical, but it is effective.
This cooler consists of two accessories. The first is a smartphone clip that clips onto the back of your phone. A cable connects it to a big box, which is a small box powered by current. As soon as you connect your phone to the device, it will automatically turn on and start cooling the smartphone. In a few seconds, the smartphone is literally frozen, so the system can absorb up to 20 degrees Celsius.
So, it’s pretty ridiculous to have such an accessory. However, OnePlus is using it as a way to show its thoughts on these cooling technologies. We cannot blame the Chinese brand for trying to innovate, but it is important to think about the ergonomics of an accessory of this type. This is absolutely impractical, however it seems effective.
