At MWC 2023, Nokia announced three smartphones in line with the brand’s “sustainable” ambition. Here are the Nokia G22, C22 and C32. The G22 in particular is a bit more ambitious as it allows you to swap out your own battery, screen or charging port thanks to a partnership with iFixit.

Since its association with HDM, Nokia has been trying to gradually get back into the smartphone game. For just over a year, the famous Finnish brand has bet all its pawns on sustainability and arguments that claim to be ecological.

In addition to its three new smartphones presented below at MWC 2023, the brand has announced that it is embarking on a process for its smartphones to be manufactured in Europe from 2023.

Nokia G22: like a smell of deja vu

In a market often singled out for its weight in climate change, it is first and foremost necessary to resolve the issue of the repairability of phones. Because the phone that pollutes the least is the one we choose to keep.

With this in mind, Nokia presents the G22, a smartphone designed to be repairable with very simple tools. The brand partnered with iFixit and even demonstrated the ease of taking your phone apart and putting it back together by swapping out the battery in less than five minutes during a press conference on a Nokia G22.

In addition to the battery, it is possible to replace the charging port or the screen. Additionally, the phone is equipped with a 100% recycled plastic back and offers two years of major updates and three years of monthly security patches. The warranty is also extended to three years.

The Nokia G22 will be sold from 179 euros in its basic configuration (4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage). A version with 128 GB of storage is also available. The phone comes in gray and blue.

The adaptation kits to repair it cost 5 euros at iFixit. As for the price of parts, it will cost 30 euros for a new battery or for a charging port. Nokia promises that parts will be available for 5 years.
