Presented by Oppo during MWC 2022, then exploited by Realme in the GT Neo 5, the 240 W fast charge “supervoocit is today surpassed in default by a 300 W technology presented this week by Xiaomi. Through its subsidiary Redmi, the group explains on Weibo that it can now fully recharge a 4,100 mAh battery in less than five minutes on the mains. By comparison, Oppo’s fast charge announced last year took nine minutes to recharge from a 4,500mAh battery.

To beat its competitor in the fastest charging game, Redmi relies on a Redmi Note 12″Discovery Edition» having been modified for the occasion. The device includes what the brand describes as a “15C high rate battery, [disposant d’une] supreme chemical power».

A compact double charger and many protections

If the superlatives used by Redmi make you smile, the in-house developed technology is truly advanced. The group explains that it uses a double GaN (gallium nitride) charger capable of developing more power while remaining compact. We also learn that this 300W device includes nothing less than “50 security guardsto avoid overheating, in particular.

In detail, this new fast charge allows you to recover 50% autonomy in just over two minutes of charging, to then reach 100% in 4 minutes and 54 seconds with a charger, with great precision. As for the charging power, it reaches a peak of 290.6 W during the test if we stick to Xiaomi’s demo video broadcast by Android Authority.

It remains to be seen when Redmi (or Xiaomi) will decide to exploit this technology commercially… and which device will be the first to take advantage of it.
