After the concept car presented in New York last year, Mini officially presents the Cooper SE Cabriolet, a model limited to only 999 copies, but above all with too low a range for a modern electric car.
In July 2022, Mini presented a nice Cooper SE Cabriolet concept car in a 100% electric version. Some months later, the British manufacturer presents the production version With, in the program, few changes compared to the concept car, but also compared to the classic version not detectable.
The new Mini Cooper SE Convertible is available in colors called “Enigmatic Black” and “White Silver”. The door handles, side air intakes and headlamp bezels are in “Resolute Bronze” to contrast with the body color.
This version is distinguished by black Mini logos and the lettering “x/999” on the door sills and side air intakes. The car is a limited edition only. 999 copies. The 17-inch alloy wheels are made from recycled aluminum and are exclusive to this model.
The most attractive Mini?
Inside we find heated sports seats with “Mini Yours Leather Lounge” upholstery. This convertible version is almost identical to the classic version, with a Nappa leather steering wheel, black lacquered surfaces and details in yellow (or green, it depends) that refer to its 100% electric motorization.
The infotainment system is still in the center of the dash, while a head-up display completes the package. Each model is equipped with active cruise control and all the features of the Mini Driving Assistant package.
The negative point, however,The boot capacity has been reduced from 210 liters only 160 liters for the convertible. And this is unfortunately not the only data that has been reduced with this transition to the convertible.
A very reduced autonomy
In fact, if there are no changes under the hood, the increased weight and aerodynamics of this model reduce autonomy quite considerably. The estimated battery life of 32.6 kWh is only 201 km under the WLTP cycle, that is, about twenty kilometers less than the classic version. That is a correct consumption of 16 kWh/100 km.
The Mini Cooper SE Convertible is powered by an electric motor positioned at the front of 184 channels. The 0 to 100 km/h shoots in 7.3 seconds.
On the other hand, if there is something that will not go down, it is the price, since the Mini Cooper SE Cabrio will surely be exchanged for at least 40,000 euros, without an ecological bonus. As a reminder, the classic Mini Cooper SE is marketed in France starting at 36,400 euros, not counting the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros currently in force.
