Based on a codename in the Google Home app, “9to5Google” speculates that a new Chromecast with Google TV is coming soon.

In 2022, Google enriched its Chromecast range with Google TV from below by adding a cheaper model and HD instead of 4K definition. Good news for users equipped with HD displays, but a bit of a disappointment for those hoping for a beefier Chromecast.
Why a new Chromecast is good news
Because if the transition to Google TV in 2020 has made it possible to greatly modernize the four-color brand’s small TV roller, by allowing it to install a large ecosystem of apps, it still suffers from a lack of performance compared to other TV Boxes. like an Apple TV 4K for example.
However, with the slowdown of the somewhat old Nvidia Shield TV, there is no longer a high-end alternative to Apple’s TV box. The other frequently mentioned problem is lack of storage. On this, Google has put in the effort and saved some space during a thrift update, but according to device owners, the available space is still a bit limited.
Google is reportedly working on a new device
According to 9to5Google, who had fun digging into the latest beta of the Google Home app, which manages the Google-style connected home, but also the Chromecast. The site found a new codename there, referring to a Google TV device. This one is called YTC, but the previous models were called YTV (Chromecast 4K) and YTB (Chromecast HD).
This discovery brings 9to5Google to speculate on the future release of a “high-end” Chromecast to replace the current 4K Chromecast. With the recent release of a basic model, that makes sense. Better storage and a better processor would be welcome.
It’s hard to imagine Google straying from its very simple and minimalist format, but adding a few ports here or there could perhaps help it position itself against its competitors.
