A hint on Apple’s official website suggests that the new Mac mini and MacBook Pro, announced on January 17, should normally have hit the market much sooner.

Through an 18-minute presentation video, Apple unveiled this Tuesday, January 17, its new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M2 Pro and M2 Max processors, as well as a new Mac mini equipped with M2 or M2 Pro chips. However, we learn today that this video should not have aired (initially) this week… but in late 2022.

So says John Gruber of the Daring Fireball blog. The data subject noticed an anomaly in the URL of the video shared on the official Apple website. “I wouldn’t exaggerate, but I noticed that the video URL has “/2022/” in its field, which makes me wonder if this was all supposed to be announced a while ago.“, he explains. MacRumors abounds in this regard, recalling that the launch of these new products had been scheduled, at a certain time, for December 2022. Under these conditions, Apple would therefore be (at least) a month behind of your initial schedule.

A video edited to be shared, apart and out of the ordinary?

As the specialized site points out, other observers go further by indicating that this video may in fact be a segment taken from a larger event that Apple planned to organize in October or November 2022, a hypothesis that cannot be ruled out as augmented. The reality files dedicated to the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro were compiled in October 2022… three months before this week’s announcement.

Huh interesting… 2022 is actually in the URL and the name of the video file… 🤔 pic.twitter.com/Q6HZ3JX023

That said, Mark Gurman had indicated in September that Apple would drop holding an event dedicated to the Mac at the end of the year. The Bloomberg journalist already believed then that the firm would finally be satisfied with more discreet announcements, through press releases and a simple update to its Store. More or less, that’s what happened in the end.
