According to the CEO of Google, in the person of Sundar Pichai, the company has never had a year as good as 2022 in terms of smartphone sales. The Pixel 6a, Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro have visibly conquered the public.
It’s true that 2022 wasn’t the most prolific crop ever in terms of smartphone sales – the market fell 11% – but some manufacturers may still start 2023 with their heads held high. This is particularly the case for Samsung and Apple, which have managed to increase their market share.
Another manufacturer may also have a smile: Google. Indeed, the Mountain View firm has achieved the best vintage in its history for its branch of smartphones. The good news was announced by Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the group, during a call focused on the financial results of the fourth quarter of 2022 (via android authority).
a formula found
Sundar Pichai has indicated that the Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro are Google’s best-selling generation of phones. As an extra, he assures that market shares have been captured in all the countries where the American brand is deployed, without giving more precise figures than that.

Already in the fourth quarter of 2021, Google had set a new quarterly sales record thanks to its Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. It seems that the Californian giant has gradually found its cruising speed, but also and above all a consistent range whose formula “excellent value for money” finds its audience.
However, it should be remembered that Google is not yet one of the five largest smartphone vendors in terms of market share. In fact, this premiere is attributed to Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo. The company is still classified in the “Others” category, due to lack of sufficient PDM.
A profitable trading strategy
It would be interesting if Google published precise sales figures, to give us a better idea of this commercial success. In any case, the year 2023 promises to be tough for the entire sector, which is now facing frontal inflation. From year to year, Google had chosen to keep prices in its range.
This strategy has paid off against other brands, many of which have increased the price of their products. Maintaining this business tactic makes sense for Google, which may become increasingly attractive even if it means reducing its margins. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will in any case have a lot to do.
